Carson Bicycle Action Plan

Overview

The City of Carson is developing a Bicycle Action Plan (BAP) that builds on the recently completed Carson Active Transportation and Connectivity Plan (CATCP) to advance seven near-term bikeway corridors by 2030. The plan evaluates Carson’s existing streets and trails to identify near-term opportunities that improve safety, connectivity, comfort, and foster bike culture. Guided by community input, the BAP will serve as a roadmap for implementation of actionable projects that deliver community-wide benefits and encourage biking and rolling.

Public input will be collected throughout the project to ensure the BAP reflects the needs of the Carson community. Through surveys, workshops, and community events, residents will be invited to share ideas, identify challenges, and help shape recommendations. This feedback will ensure that the Carson BAP reflects community priorities while guiding future investments that improve quality of life for everyone.

The Bicycle Action Plan’s Four Goals

Overcome Barriers

Make it easier for people of all ages and abilities to bike comfortably and safely across Carson.

Focus on What Can Be Built

Create a plan with real, near-term projects that are achievable and can be funded and constructed in phases.

Deliver Community Benefits

Design bikeways that support safe travel and bring added benefits like greener streets, welcoming spaces, and neighborhood improvements.

Foster a Bike-Friendly Culture

Encourage biking through community input and programs that make riding feel inviting and accessible to everyone.

What is a Bicycle Action Plan?

A Bicycle Action Plan serves as a focused, near-term guide for creating a more connected, safe, and bicycle-friendly city. Unlike long-range master plans, an action plan emphasizes immediate strategies and advances the design of implementable projects that move a community toward its vision for biking. For Carson, this means developing a plan that not only aligns with the City’s priorities but also reflects the voices and needs of the community. The BAP will provide clear, achievable steps to expand access, improve safety, and create a culture of bicycling as part of everyday life.
